The 5 Worst Foods for Our Health.

In a world overflowing with convenience, preservatives, and processed everything, it’s easy to forget that what we put into our bodies has a direct impact on how we feel—physically, mentally, and even spiritually.

But Scripture reminds us:

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” – 1 Corinthians 10:31

As believers, our bodies are not our own. We were bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and honoring God includes caring for our health with wisdom and intention.

Let’s take a look at five of the worst offenders in the modern diet—foods that not only harm the body but may also dull the clarity and energy we need to walk in our calling.

1. Ultra-Processed Foods

Think: packaged snacks, frozen meals, flavored chips, and boxed treats loaded with additives, dyes, and preservatives.

These “Frankenfoods” are engineered for taste and shelf life, not nourishment. They spike blood sugar, disrupt hormones, inflame the gut, and over time, can contribute to depression, fatigue, and disease.

“A wise man thinks ahead; a fool doesn’t, and even brags about it!” – Proverbs 13:16

Let’s think ahead about the consequences of what we eat, and choose what gives life, not just momentary pleasure.

2. Sugary Drinks & Sodas

These are more than empty calories—they’re metabolic disrupters. Sugary beverages flood the body with fructose, which stresses the liver, raises blood pressure, feeds inflammation, and contributes to weight gain and insulin resistance.

“Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.” – Proverbs 25:28

Overindulgence in sweet drinks slowly breaks down the defenses God gave our bodies. Practicing self-control is a spiritual discipline, even in the small things.

3. Refined Grains (White Bread, Pasta, Pastries)

Refined grains are stripped of their nutrients, fiber, and healthy fats—leaving behind fast-digesting starch that acts like sugar in the body. These foods promote blood sugar crashes, brain fog, and cravings.

“Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?” – Isaiah 55:2

God calls us to feast on what truly nourishes—not what temporarily fills but leaves us depleted. Whole, God-given foods satisfy in ways fake bread never can.

4. Seed Oils (Canola, Soybean, Corn, Cottonseed Oil)

Often found in fast food, baked goods, salad dressings, and “vegetable oil” blends, these oils are highly processed and high in omega-6 fatty acids, which can fuel chronic inflammation in the body.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above…” – James 1:17

Seed oils are far from God’s design for food. Instead, opt for oils He created in simple, natural ways—like olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil.

5. Processed Meats (Bacon, Sausage, Deli Meat, Hot Dogs)

These meats often contain nitrates, preservatives, artificial smoke, and excessive sodium, all of which have been linked to heart disease, cancer, and digestive distress.

“Better a small serving of vegetables with love than a fattened calf with hatred.” – Proverbs 15:17

Sometimes the “richer” food isn’t richer at all. God doesn’t require luxury—He calls us to wisdom, love, and care in what we bring to the table.

A Final Word: Choose Life

God told His people long ago:

“I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” – Deuteronomy 30:19

Every food choice is an invitation to either steward life or to slowly compromise it. At Kingdom Come Home, we believe that holistic living is sacred living—rooted in God’s wisdom and His desire for our flourishing.
